Opportunity for Data Analyst - Power Grids - Energy Transmission with ABB’s Enterprise Software Product Group

Job description

The Market Research Analyst plays a key role in supporting the collection and processing of investment grade energy industry data which feed into the EV Transmission and EV Weather modules of the Velocity Suite.  They utilize industry and data expertise to assist in the support of all Velocity Suite clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collect and process energy industry data, including:
  • Transmission, weather and powerflow data
  • Create reports and procedures – in SQL, PL/SQL, or SAS and in the Velocity Suite – to ensure data quality and integrity, including cooperative research efforts with other groups
  • Use SQL, PL/SQL, SAS, and/or Excel to develop, manage, and improve statistical summaries of the hourly data
  • Implement and maintain testing processes to ensure data quality
  • Develop and manage automated processes for data collection and analysis
  • Develop and maintain metadata structures within the Velocity Suite
  • Assist Product Director to develop top notch industry software products and customer facing studies
  • Support Velocity Suite clients using our database and analytical software product

Desired Skills and Experience

 General Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of relational databases
  • Experience working with large databases is a plus
  • Good working knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of PL/SQL  is a plus
  • Knowledge of GIS software is a plus
  • Good working knowledge of math, statistics, and/or economics
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, analytical thinker
  • Independent worker with creativity to share
  • Candidate will exhibit a strong work ethic, attention to detail, an ability to quickly learn new applications, and a determination to excel
  • Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing to clients, stakeholders and developers

 Education and/or Experience

  • Qualified candidate must have a minimum of 2 years work experience
  • Though it is only one of the duties of the position, the qualified candidate will have a good background in SQL
  • Experience with energy industry or weather data – including collection and analysis – is a definite plus
  • A bachelor’s degree (preferably in a quantitative field such as economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering or applied computer science) is required.  A master’s degree is a plus and may be accepted in lieu of work experience
  • An excellent academic and/or work record is a must
