Opening for Manager Safety Investigations - Flight & Cabin Operations with Etihad Airways

We are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to join the Corporate Safety and Quality function as Manager Safety Investigations – Flight & Cabin Operations.

You will add immediate value by lead and manage safety investigations / audits. Identify trends and address system and process deficiencies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to improve safety standards.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Manager Safety Investigation – Flight & Cabin Operations reports directly to the Senior Manager Flight Safety and is responsible to:
  • Review processes and procedures related to the safety investigations section to ensure that they are in compliance with national (GCAA) regulations and international (IATA, ISASI, etc.) best practices. 
  • Monitor the effectiveness of these processes in order to provide continuous improvement. 
  • Plan the annual sectional budget to ensure there is enough funding for the section’s activities. 
  • Participate in safety investigations by: representing the Safety Department the Emergency Response Centre, or leading the investigation go-team, and represents the company with regards to any major accident or disaster that occurs in the air or on the ground.
  • Perform internal safety investigations of non-routine occurrences and incidents, which include the development and verification of accident causal analysis.
  • Analyse factual information gathered from investigations to be able to deduce the causes of safety incidents and accidents.
  • Identify safety recommendations to the organisation in order to avoid repeated safety incidents.
  • Implement the Etihad aviation accident investigation response team in order to be able to participate in governmental investigations involving Etihad aircraft.  This includes ensuring their training and other qualifications are kept up to date and that there are sufficient.
  • Maintain the safety management system database to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data entered into the database for future statistical use.
  • Direct a team of investigators and analysts to ensure that there is sufficient coverage of the Safety Duty Manager and investigation go-team.

  • Prepare and develop Function/Department budget, and monitor financial performance versus the budget to ensure alignment
  • Day-to-Day Operations
  • Supervise the standard and complex day-to-day operations to ensure that work processes are implemented as designed and in compliance with established standards and procedures
  • People development
  • Manage the effective achievement of objectives by setting individual targets, developing and motivating staff in order to maximize subordinate performance
  • Safety, Quality & Environment

Comply and ensure compliance with all relevant safety, security, quality, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Qualification & Education

  Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to engineering, safety or aviation, is recommended
  Successful completion of an aircraft accident investigation course
  Successful completion of an aviation Safety Management System training course
  Airline Transport Pilot’s License or a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (highly recommended)

Work Experience -

At least 15 years total working experience
At least 10 years of aviation working experience
At least 5 years working experience in a Flight Safety function or minimum of one year internal experience within Etihad Safety & Quality Department

Training & Knowledge

 Fluent in written and spoken English

General business management training, including budgets, human resources, performance and project management

 Advanced computer literacy in office productivity applications  Supplemental training in safety related disciplines, such as Flight Data Monitoring, advanced investigations, auditing, risk management, etc.
