Amec Foster Wheeler currently has exciting opportunity for a Middle East & Africa Operations Manager for our US Government Construction Group who will lead the delivery of infrastructure Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) projects for international clients in the Government sector. The Operations Manager will have P&L responsibility for all U.S. Government construction and engineering projects in the Middle East and Africa. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of U.S. Government Construction.
This role has overall responsibility for business development, profit and loss, project operations, and coordination of project staff and sub-contractors to ensure safe, cost effective, efficient and timely completion of projects in order to meet and/or exceed client expectations. Position will be based in one of Amec Foster Wheeler’s hub offices in the Middle East or Africa, and applicant must have willingness to travel, for varying durations and at times, to remote locations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee MEA operations and Joint Ventures, provide leadership and guidance for multiple construction projects across the MEA region
Develop and interact with key Government Clients in the region, developing and building additional work within existing projects and existing clients
Developing and maintaining relationships and communication channels with clients, stake holders, and internal personnel to ensure that work flows smoothly and to build strong project delivery teams and long term relationships with customers
Recruit and retain key personnel through effective leadership and visibility in the marketplace. Locate, recruit, hire, mentor, and manage key talent to support projects
Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure success of the MEA operating unit; monitor performance against KPIs and develop appropriate actions
Coordinates across the Amec Foster Wheeler businesses to identify, acquire, and deliver work in accordance with the Amec Foster Wheeler Operating Model; Leverage Amec Foster Wheeler capabilities from across the globe to offer services and increase market share
Manages the coordination of geographically dispersed project teams to ensure safe, cost effective, efficient and timely completion of projects in order to meet and/or exceed client expectations
Be the role model for the standards and behaviors within the business, particularly working pro-actively and collaboratively with other businesses in the best overall interest of Amec Foster Wheeler
Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements (both U.S. and local)
Skills / Qualifications
US citizenship is required
BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required Certification in an internationally recognized project management association is desirable
At least 20 years of experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, including more than 15 years engineering or operations experience with construction projects
Experience managing construction projects for US Government, including U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of State (including USAID), in the Middle East and Africa
Knowledge of principles and techniques of multi-project service disciplines and knowledge of competing and alternative project management techniques
Must be familiar in the use of Project Controls systems including Primavera P6
Previous P&L experience including line management
Residence in one of Amec Foster Wheeler’s hub offices in the Middle East or Africa and a willingness to travel, for varying durations and at times to remote locations
Fluency in English Language is required; Knowledge of other languages spoken in the Middle East and Africa is desirable
